Q. We have an event booked, when should we be at the Wharf?

A. The boat will be ready for loading 15 minutes prior to departure. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to departure to ensure you are not late. If you are late on an individual Charter you will miss the boat as we always run on time. Unfortunately you will not be refunded the cost of your charter.

Q. Where is the boat and how do we get there?

A. The boat is located at the Sandspit Wharf, which is 7 kilometers from Warkworth township. See our 'CONTACT' page for address and map details.

Q. Do you pick up from Kawau Island?

A. Yes, as long as you have access to a wharf that is accessible on all tides. This must be arranged and paid for at the time of your booking. Its important to remember to check this as our boat is not a dingy! Cost is an extra $30.00 per person.

Q. Is there parking nearby?

A. Council Public Parking (Pay & Display) is available on the left hand side just before the Wharf. The cost is approximately $10.00 for the day. If you are short of cash they do accept Credit cards in the machine.

There is also Free parking up the road if you don't mind walking 400metres but this is limited over the Summer period when its really busy. If you decide on the free option please allow extra time to get to the boat on time.

Q. Is smoking allowed on board?

A. Sorry but No! Your safety out on the water is our responsibility and we take this very seriously.

Q. What should we bring?

A. First of all, a great attitude is required before getting on board. Remember that you're about to head out for a few hours with great friends and a fantastic Skipper in a unique setting. In addition consider bringing along the following:

Sunscreen, a must under all conditions

A camera to take snapshots of those big fish

Beverages of your choice (preferably in cans please, they cool faster, don't break and don't tip over as easy)

    Snacks take your fish home.

Ice and a Cooler Bag to put it all in

Sweater, for those of you that get chilled easily

Motion-sickness tablets (A good idea for some)

Coordinate amongst yourselves as to who brings what. Temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler on the water than on shore, so dress appropriately. If you do feel chilled, the cabin is closed in and offers respite from the outdoors.

Q. What should I NOT bring?

A. The following things you are not allowed to bring onboard

·       Illegal Drugs - absolutely no illegal drugs are allowed on board.

·       Firearms - absolutely no firearms are allowed on board.

·       Bananas - It may be an old wives tale, but it's a fact that bananas are bad luck on a fishing charter boat. History tells us that this tale originated from early years when boats with Bananas in the cargo, ran aground, got lost at sea, or lost many of their crewmembers to a deadly sickness. Further investigation indicated that the bananas were also prone to carry the deadly tarantula spiders. If that's not bad enough, rumor also has it that the fish know if you have them on board and they don't like them. Believe it or Not!!!

Q. Where will we go?

A. Our 4 hour charters are based around Kawau Island & the Flat Rock area to maximize your fishing time. This is our most popular day trip because of the sheltered calm waters and because it is affordable for most people.

Q. Is there cell phone coverage when on the boat?

A. Yes most of the time, feel free to call friends and family and tell them what a wonderful time you're having.

Q. Do you have a private Toilet on board?

A. Yes

For shared charters (i.e. Snapper, Kingfish and Big Game), payment for each person must be made in full, in advance, via our online booking system. Payment can be made securely by credit card over the internet using PayPal. For Full Day charters, full payment is required two weeks in advance.  Please contact us directly to book your Full Day Charter.

Refunds can only be offered in the unlikely event of a cancellation due to unsafe weather conditions or boat malfunction. Cancellations are made solely by the Skipper.

We will attempt to give you as much notice as possible of a cancellation due to weather, and will send notification to the ticket email address used for booking and a text message to the number entered when making the booking on line. If there is a breakdown in the email and text message notification system - normally caused by incorrect entry when booking - it is your responsibility to check on the booking calendar to ensure the trip hasn't got "CANCELED" entered above it.

If you paid with PayPal, we will automatically refund your money or we can re-book you for another Charter that suits both parties. For payments older than 60 days you will receive an email with a PayPal link to click to receive your refund.

If you cancel a Charter within two weeks of departure Sandspit Fishing Charters will hold a 20% booking fee.

If you cancel a charter within 72 hours of the confirmed date you will incur a 100% charge of invoiced total.

Unfortunately there may be occasions due to sudden changes in conditions when we are forced to cancel directly before the trip, or even shorten the trip while in progress. If we have to shorten your trip due to bad weather or boat malfunctions, we will refund a proportion of the cost of the trip, based on the remaining trip time.

We have no issue with alcohol consumption but smoking is not allowed on board. Your safety and the comfort of other passengers is very important to us. Where excess consumption of alcohol does jeopardize safety, Sandspit Fishing Charters reserves the right to terminate the trip with no refund due - or to safely remove any affecting passengers wherever we see suitable!

When you come on a charter with us, its only fair that the catch will be shared amongst all of the customers on the boat. We are responsible for allocating this.

You must pay to repair or replace any damage you cause to the boat or its fittings. You will be asked to pay the cost of replacement for any rods and reels that you damage or lose overboard, even if accidentally.

You are not liable for any normal wear and tear or gear failures, such as reels jamming or rods breaking when the rod to line angle is greater than 90 degrees. Rods do occasionally break when used improperly, and we can advise you on this if you are unsure, so please just ask.

You must follow the skippers instructions at all times while on board. Our primary concern is for your safety, and you must comply with any instructions from the skipper immediately and without argument. This includes donning life jackets when asked to, due to unsafe weather conditions.
